How to clean the crankcase breather of your Honda 919 (Hornet 900)

Please read the disclaimer before you follow the instructions on this page.

According to the Honda 919 service manual, you need to clean the crankcase breather of your 919 every 4000 miles. The manual also states that the crankcase breather needs to be serviced more frequently if the motorcycle is ridden often at full throttle or in the rain. Thanks for the guys on WristTwister, especially Rob, here's how you do it.

Grab a pair of pliers.

Where is it?

Go to the left side of your bike, find a short piece of clear plastic tubing pointing at the starter motor.

What to do?

To drain the clear plastic tube, you need to first press the spring clamp holding it with the pair of pliers and then remove the tube (put a rag underneath it to catch any excess fluid, oil/water/air filter oil, before you pull it off). Once everything is drained, including whatever is left in the tube, put the tube back in place and clamp it back on.
